The reverence (not worship, as many mistakenly believe) of great old trees – be they oaks, ash, or the witch-ridden elders – is universal and found in all cultures. Equally so in the British Isles. Trees were imbued with spirits of various forms and were the focus of rites and moots; as well as the source of a great many medicines.
